Cashless Claims

A cashless claim is where the insurance company directly pays the claim amount and all you need to do is submit the required documents for claim approval. Wherever Cashless claim facility is available, we would urge you to go for a Cashless claim payout because it is easier, quicker and your money (which can be really large at times) is not paid from your pocket. For a Cashless claim, all you need to do is get in touch with the Insurer (or a Third-Party Administrator, TPA, in case of Health Insurance or Travel Medical Insurance) at their helpline numbers (available in the Company-wise Details section) and they generally take care of it after that. Should you face a problem or delay, we are there to speeden it up for you. Just let us know about it.

Term Insurance Plans

Generic Guide for making a Death Claim for Term/Life Insurance Policy*

  1. Check for Validity : A death claim is payable only if the term/life insurance policy is in force, i.e. it is active and all due premiums have been paid till the date of death (or the policy is still not lapsed). Do check the policy for the same.


  2. Check for Inclusion : Generally, all kinds of death are covered in the case of term/life insurance policies unless it is a case of suicide within 1 year of the policy commencement (or 1 year from last revival of a policy in case it had lapsed).


  3. Check for Policy Attachments / Riders : Ensure that you check the policy document for any attachments that were taken, added later and are in force, e.g. additional death benefit in case of death due to an Accident. Check whether the circumstances allow the claim for the attachment. In such cases, the total claim amount can be different (higher, in most cases). Knowing this is important from the nominee's perspective.


  4. Inform the Insurance Company : Inform the company (choose the insurer below and know who and how) at the earliest possible instance. Don't delay. You do not need any document when you inform about a death claim – all you need to quote is the policy number. Anyone can inform the company, it doesn't necessarily have to be the nominee. The company will advise you on the next steps, and ask for specific information if they need any.


  5. Submit the duly filled Claim Form and necessary Documents : The Claim Form is available below or you can take it from the insurance company itself. It will need to be fully and accurately filled up and submitted to the company with the documents. The list of documents vary with circumstances of death, but here is a generic list.


    • Original Policy Document

    • Completely & Counter signed filled Claim Form

    • Nominee ID proof establishing relationship with Life Insured

    • Copy of death certificate issued by local authority

    • Address Proof of the Nominee

    • Medical Records (admission notes, discharge summary, test reports etc)

    • Last Medical Attendance Report ( LMA)

    • Post Mortem Report ,if post mortem done

    • First Information Report / Police Report if case filed with Police

    • Panchnama / Inquest Report if case filed with Police

    • Saving Bank Account Number

    • Newspaper cuttings

    • Contact number of Claimant


  6. Claim Scrunitization and Settlement : The insurance company will scrutinize your documents and information. It may ask you for more details if required, and then take a decision on your claim. Claims are generally paid directly (electronically) into the bank account of the nominee.
